GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Must be able to physically operate a 7-passenger mini-van in a safe and timely manner. Must be able to safely operate vehicles in all kinds of weather and on all types of highways, roads and streets. Must have an excellent driving record and practice defensive driving techniques. Must be able to follow a route sheet and adhere to a
driving schedule. Must have extensive knowledge of the geography of the assigned area and the location of streets, and must be able to follow route sheets that may extend beyond the borders of Davidson County. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, students and Transportation staff. Must display professionalism by functioning in a respectful and respectable manner. Must have the ability to maintain student confidentiality at all times. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills. Must have record keeping skills and the ability to submit daily required vehicle records. Must be able to use a cell phone, two-way radio and/or walkie-talkie effectively.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Transports a small number of passengers in a safe and timely manner.
- Follows a predetermined route that may extend beyond county lines.
- Displays patience and kindness in communicating with passenger(s).
- Must be readily available to assist passengers in entering (Fasten securely) and exiting the vehicle as well as securely entering the building at his/her destination.
- Report to the dispatcher/planner of dangerous stops, turns or traffic situations or passenger issues. ? Maintains accurate logs and records of passenger(s), vehicle mileage, and the vehicle requested repairs.
- Keeps the vehicle clean and maintained. Performs a pre-trip and post-trip inspection of vehicles on a daily basis. Reports all accidents at the scene of the accident.
- Other duties as deemed necessary by the Transportation Department.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience. ? Ability to diagnose and repair problems and plan and organize appropriate corrective action. ? Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to exercise independent initiative.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the general public.
- Possession of valid North Carolina CDL driver’s license is required. If you do not have a valid North Carolina CDL driver’s license at the time of employment, you will have twelve months to obtain the North Carolina CDL driver’s license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Some positions assigned to this class may require light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
