Title:  EC Pre K Teacher

Reports to: District Pre-K Coordinator

Terms of Employment:

Salary: Pay Grade - Teacher Salary Plus Supplement

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Employee is responsible for reviewing psychological reports, speech reports, related services reports, and medical reports, Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to help determine eligibility and placement of students with disabilities in Pre-K. Work is guided by and must be in compliance with federal and state statutes and regulations.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

  • Assists in assuring compliance with state/federal rules and regulations in Pre-K (PK) classrooms
  • Attends countywide IEP meetings and serves as the Public School Unit (PSU) Representative
  • Assists in developing IEP goals, objectives and interventions that are developmentally appropriate, curriculum/standards based, strength based and relevant to individual students
  • Monitor teachers' reports pertaining to individual student growth and program accountability (progress reports and progress monitoring documentation)
  • Assists with year-round intakes, referrals, and preschool clinic
  • Assists with planning and scheduling Every Child Accountability and Tracking System (ECATS) professional development opportunities for PK personnel

                Assists with Exceptional Children (EC) paperwork audit for PK program

  • As appropriate, acts as a mentor to “Initially Licensed” or new special education teachers
  • Provides in-service training for Preschool Staff
  • Assists with development of policies and procedures from initial intake to transition to kindergarten
  • Assists PK teachers with improving techniques for instruction and improving overall student achievement; provides instructional strategies and various tools to aid the instructional process; observes teachers and provides feedback and/or demonstration lessons as needed
  • Assists with updating and revising policies, handbooks, and necessary forms for various audiences in appropriate languages
  • Supports PK teacher with curriculum implementation and assessment
  • Supports teacher assistants with assistive technology, behavior observations, referral process for North Carolina PK students,
  • Assist with PK staff development on new policies and procedures
  • Become trained and proficient in the strategies of the NC Pyramid Model (formerly NC Social Emotional Foundations for Early Learning (SEFEL) project), designed to help improve child outcomes and increase opportunities in least restrictive environments, and promotes healthy social-emotional development for ALL children birth through five years of age.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of PK to K transition procedures for DCS
  • Attends workshops, trainings, and annual/quarterly regional/state PK coordinators’ meetings related to all the aspects of PK program implementation, policies and procedures, best practices, and compliance

 

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Performs other related work as required

 

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Birth to K or Preschool add-on certification
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum of five years teaching experience in a preschool classroom that serves exceptional children
  • Experience in working with adult learners
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with principals, staff, students, and parents
  • Ability to formulate and express ideas on early learning educational issues and prepare recommendations for possible improvement
  • Ability to provide training to various levels of personnel
  • Ability to communicate effectively through written and oral formats
  • Working knowledge of effective technology tools
  • Ability to work in collaborative teams
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to plan and implement short and long term goals with action steps

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.  Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.  Some positions assigned to this class may require light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
